0day import

Can I import data from my GIS department directly into Mappoint of any version, including 2008?

I am trying to find a solution as good as Streets And Trips for displaying maps and route info for my deputies in their cars. We currently have a slow website that has 0day GIS data, but has no real graphics or routing capability.

I'd like to use Streets and Trips 2007 or 2008 to make this happen. But I'd like to update the local files monthly. For some reason my GIS department will not update Microsofts database regularly, and we have a ton of new streets and access roads. I'm sure my GIS guys will give me the data in any format I need.

The reason that your GIS guys don't update the MS databases is because they can't.

I hae been using MapPoint for emergency services for about 6 years now. It is a great low cost platform; but as you know, the information us out of date before the product is even released.

I am now switching over to Virtual Earth, and I have been creating mashups for the new developements in my response area. The only drawback is that you still do not have routeable roads, but at least you can see the area

This example was done with MapCruncher Beta, of a new Condoplex going in by me. One advantage I do have with this is that only two-thirds of these units are built, so I am actually ahead of the game here

Hi linncountysheriff,

You may also want to check out Laptop GPS World (http://www.laptopgpsworld.com)
SA9+ with an LT-40 may get you through til MapPoint 2009 ships.

I've contacted Delorme sales about Street Atlas USA 2009 Plus. We already have GPS devices in our patrol cars so I won't be needing any additional hardward. (although if it's cheap enough what's the harm).

Have you or anyone imported shapfiles or raw GIS data into Street Atlas or any other easy to use mapping software with GPS directions or route mapping?

I just got the DVD released in April.
I'll be taking it 'round the block a few times.
See you over on Laptop GPS World (http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/)
