How can I find nearest point on a road from a point off-road

Can anyone help?

I've scoured the forum and help files and can see no way of doing this. I would like to correct an errant GPS reading and place the point on the nearest point on a given road. I've tried manually but the results vary. Sometimes, for example, the shortest path is not taken.

Have a think about this challange and jot down some notes if you can help.

Take a look at this article: Reverse Geocoding, Pt. III

The code in the article gets the nearest address, you just want the nearest road. Maybe you can modify it to do what you need?
