I'm running Vista on my machine and have MapPoint 2009 installed. I've downloaded and extracted the MapPoint Spatial Data Import COM Add-in (2004) but whenever I try to select the .dll file in the COM Add-In dialog box, I receive the error message that "this is not a valid Office add-in".

Can anyone help?

Hi Kathy,

When I create COM Addins, the compiler automatically adds the appropriate
registry entries ... so here's a guess ... Start-> Run -> regsvr32 "Path to dll"

Ex:
regsvr32 "C:\Documents and Settings\Kathy\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns\SpatialDataImport.dll"

and received the following error - any thoughts?

Make sure the finary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .dll files. The specified module could not be found.

Possibly, you didn't extract it from a zip file?
If that's the case, once extracted you can add it using MapPoint
and forget the regsvr32 stuff.

Sorry I know this is an old post, but just wanted to follow up in case someone else is searching.

I think the solution would be to go to the start menu, Accessories, and right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator, more info --
