Someone other then MS working to correct roads on maps?

As we all know by now, there is no MS-endorsed way to add, change, or delete any native info on the map. MS only lists more current maps and frequent updates as something they are working on. At least they recognize it as a problem.

In the meantime, have any of you uber-programmers tried to crack the code to be able to mod the data within the native map? I'd be happy with an ugly script or way to import into a vector graphics program or something just to be able to add some three-year-old roads, off-ramps, and street names and delete some 4WD roads that are now subdivisions.
