Stop The Dancing Maps

I am using the OCX control in Access.

As I build a map, I need to reverse geocode some lat/lon locations and do some other calculations, functions that require a number of goto location commands. The map update and zooms all over the place and the final picture is what I want, but is there a way to build the map and then connect it to the control or hide map while the calculations are made and then show it?

Hi,

If you dont use GoTo or other pan/zoom methods I dont think the map will move. However you can put a second control on the form, set Visible to False and do what you have to do with it. I often do this. Be aware that this will open a second mappoint.exe that consume extra memory.

Thanks.

If I don't use goto the reverse geocoding does not resolve. Is there a way to get accurate street addresses without using the goto command. I am using some reverse geocoding code borrowed from the Mappoint newsletter.

Also, do you have any sense of how much overhead a new instance of Mappoint is? Would it help if I made the control extremely small?

Hi,

Youre right, it dont work without the Goto, sorry I did not knew that. To op en a second instance around 30 MB extra. Setting the control very small dont help I think, but you can set Visible to false.
