Streets and Trips 2008 Data in MP2006

Just wondering if anyone has gotten Streets and Trips map data into MapPoint 2006, the way it's been done with MP 2004 and data from S&T 2005 (I think that's the one we did)

I would be interested to know about this too.

Also what if anything (or everything) "breaks" when this is done.

Re: Streets and Trips 2008 Data in MP2006

On matters of currency of data (European edition):
  1. What is the word on release of a 2008 edition?
  2. Is the online version kept updated with newer data as it becomes available than the DVD versions?
Still looking for a Mappoint 2002 European edition, thanks for the suggestions to date, but have drawn a blank so far...

Re: Streets and Trips 2008 Data in MP2006

Some people tried to use S&T 08 data in S&T 07 version (because of various issues w/S&T 08 program), and it worked for them. It may be worth trying with your MP 06.

Yes, it can be done in a similar way to what was done with the 2004 version.

Here's a step by step of the method I used with the trial version of MapPoint 2006.

Close MapPoint 2006
1) rename the MapPoint 2006 data file to dataBACKUP
2) create a new empty folder named data in MapPoint 2006
3) open the S&T 2008 data folder
4) copy and paste the following files from S&T 2008 data to the new empty data folder of MapPoint 2006
* MSD8
* MSMBase
* USA_ATT.psi
* USA_CD.mad
* USA_HD.mad
* USAARTS
* USAGeom
* USAP2M
* USARoads
* USARoute (heavyweatherhistory)
* USARoute (DCT file)
* USARoute.NDX
* USARoute.VLF

5) copy and paste the following files from the MapPoint dataBACKUP file to the new empty folder data folder of MapPoint 2006

* ConstructionA5071522
* USADemo
6) If it is wished to revert back to the original version simply rename the dataBACKUP folder to data again.

The difference can be seen between these two pics.

Re: Streets and Trips 2008 Data in MP2006

Wow! This sounds great. I'm working with MapPoint 2006 and vb.net to create a bus routing program for our local school district and I've noticed quite a few incorrect/missing streets. This would be a great and needed update for me. Are there any known drawbacks in performing this update? I won't lose any functionality with my MapPoint control in .net will I? Thanks...

Re: Streets and Trips 2008 Data in MP2006

I think you just have to try it... (and let us know how it goes!)

My impression or experience with mixing older products is that some functionality is hobbled, but you would have to try it to see how it goes with your own usage.

And report back to us please to share your findings

Re: Streets and Trips 2008 Data in MP2006

As in MapPoint 2004 you can expect to lose the auto update for the construction files. You'll have to download and install them manually. For the rest, I couldn't say. Backup your data folder, by simply renaming it you should be able to go back to the original version if you don't like it for your needs.

I renamed mine dataBACKUP and when I tested reverting back to the original, I renamed the new data folder dataNEW while I tested restoring the old data folder.
