| streets & trips vs Mappoint * I have a j2ME app that runs on GPS capable cellphones. It sends lat/lon/speed/date-time to a server at regular intervals to a server. * I have a server that takes requests (from my VB app) for latest data for a specific cell phone * My VB6 program passes that to a Mappoint object for plottng and display * due to the higher cost of Mappoint, I would like to be able to do this with Streets&Trips as well. Question: is there a way to pass the lat/lon values to Streets and Trips Thank You, Bill Ward         |

Bill, This is a restricted use of MapPoint and Streets and Trips. I am not sure if it is an illegal application or if you fall into the "Fleet Applicatoin" restrictions. You will need to contact Microsoft licensing for the details. The EULA says "You also may not use Software Product with or in communication with any mobile or wireless-connected electronic or computer devices (except to the extent expressly permitted herein), including, without limitation, cellular phones, palmtop and handheld computers, pagers, and personal digital assistants or PDAs." To summerize it is either a) an illegal use of the product, or b) it is not practical because it is very expensive solution and there are fleet size restrictions and real time/near real time issues. | mappoint application
Grant - I understand what you are saying. My application was done in MP2002 which was prior to the fleet restrictions and the 2003 EULA issues. We did speak to someone at Microsoft at the time and the fact that we had a 5 minute latency in the system got us around the near real time problems. However, it looks as if the absolute restrictions for use with cellphone applications is a show stopper, at least for the 2003 S&T and MP2004. Does anyone have any suggestions. The platform from cellphone to server to VB app works really well but there are very few copies of MP2002 left. |
