Territories

I would like to see the ability to create overlapping territories on a map. For example, a company office would have a territory, and each of its sales reps would have sub-territories. There is no graphical way (like a highlight or pattern) to tie these sub-territories together to show they make up a larger territory.

Whats a territory without overlaps?

This is the biggest reason for me NOT looking at MAPPOINT for use in our company. I am sure it is a problem for others as well that are trying to manage multiple markets and territories within.

In our case, we have four different industries we market to, with multiple dealers in each area. We also have some areas, (primarily by counties) which are represented by two or three distributors within the same industry. Because there is no layering, there is no way of defining areas which may overlap or apply to multiple dealers.

Does anyone know of a program out there that allows this? I really dont need all the demographic stuff in Mappoint, but I have to be able to overlap the assigned territories...

hi frustrated!

I think you can solve your problem with "mapobjects" wich gives you the option to overlap layers as .shp files.
The bad side is price, it's more expensive that mappoint, sorry I can't be more helpfull.

Try overlaying maps in MS Word...

One way you can "create" layers is to copy the map from mapPoint and paste it into MS Word. Then use the image tools (brightness, contrast, crop, etc) to click on a territory within the map and make it "transparent" using that image tool. I have just begun to ex[eriment with this and I am getting a significant number of MS Word "crashes", but it may be a wrok around....
