Tracking Route And Save To File (possible to do this?)

What im looking to do is install a maping program and connect a gps device (like delorme) to a laptop and leave it in the back of my car while driving.

What I would hope to do is at least track route street by street and save the file when done for further review.

If possible I would like it record stopes, where stoped and time stoped, speed driven.

Can mappoint 2004 or eariler do this? Is there any other program that can do it? I was also looking at the software bundled with the delorme GPS package, but didnt know if mappoint would be better.

Thanks.

Hiya

I did this using a program called comfoolery to redirect the com port to a tcp/ip port and used a telnet/ssh client called putty to connect to the tcp/ip port after setting it to log to a file. This recorded all the NMEA data and I used excel to format the lat/long correctly etc then imported the data into mappoint.

I was also able to using a program called GPSSIM and a null modem cable play this NMEA data back as a simulated GPS device in any navigation program to watch the data back 'as it happened'.

I cannot remember the URLS of the software above but it is all freeware and can be found reasonably easily with google.

Steve
