Trouble with Phone Numbers from Excel

    Greetings All,

I have a map with about 5k pushpins that is having trouble correctly getting data from excel 2007.

One of my columns is filled with phone numbers, and out of the blue, the phone numbers in the MapPoint balloons all went to "0" after an update linked records.

I've seen the same behavior in MP2010 & 2009 even on new maps that I've created.

The only way I can solve the issue is to format the Excel column as "text" vs "Special-Phone Number" which hurts the readability of the spreadsheet.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    George

Sounds like a TIP to me, your specific circumstance is probably not that rare, but specific enough that most readers to this post wouldn't have experienced it.

Text sounds like the best thing to do anyway. Same with zipcodes. Both look like numbers, but humans treat both as text, and programs like Excel and MapPoint should not interpret them as numbers otherwise odd things will happen - eg. leading zeros will be dropped, scientific notation suddenly appears, rounding, etc.
