| Trying to optimize my route I am about to start my job as a mail currier driver and I started looking into different softwares that could help me to do my job faster and more efficiently. There will be about 130-170 (different) stops per day every day and I wanted to know if this software can handle so many stops and be able to optimize my route for me. I tried to play with it and entered about 40 addresses all in the same zip code not in sequence, but in a different distance order from my first stop. The way it optimized it for me is not how I'd like it to be. It somehow arranged stop 4, 5, 34, 35, 36 right next to each other for some reason??? Why would it do that? Why couldn't it make it 4, 5, 6, 7... if the stops are right next to each other. What is the logic behind Optimizer? Can someone please help me out with it? I don't want to drive back to the same area and make stops again since I already was there. Also, is there a way to make a scheduled stop to be on time? Even if it is not in sequence? Thank you so much! B. |

B, MapPoint can handle the stops pretty well. You can use the Route Planner to your advantage, moving stops up or down the list. However, as the number of stops increases, the need for automation increases - especially if you're looking to implement time windows. Mike Mattys Mattys Consulting - Custom Programming |

So in order to make a scheduled stop on time I have to move it up or down in planner manually? There is no way to make this program move the shceduled stop automatically based on real time? My stops will be different every day. So every day I'll have to enter over 100 stops. Mike, do you know what's the logic behind optimizer? Why did it pick first stops and last next to each other? No, you can both manually and programmatically schedule stops. With the more stops, the better programming looks. Without looking over the points, I can only guess that you placed your first stop equal to your last stop so that you had a round trip. Then it makes sense ...
