Hi

Can anyone advise what format a UK postcode should be in for import into Mappoint ? I have a two column dataset with a postcode in column A and the description in Column B and want to plot the 42 locations onto mappoint but it falls over when I try and do the import.

You may have another problem, I have found Mappoint pretty tolerant and 'intelligent' in interpreting a variety of Postcode formats. However, it can get confused if there is no space so you may solve your problem by making sure you have (for instance) SN11 4DF, rather than SN114DF.

Any chance of seeing some examples Mark??

The one constant is the last 3 characters.
To make sure there is always a space use something like:-
MS-Access VBA
postcode = Replace(postcode, " ", "") 'Remove all spaces
postcode = Left$(postcode, Len(postcode) - 3) & " " & Right$(postcode, 3) ' Add space in correc position
postcode = StrConv(postcode, vbUpperCase) 'Convert to Upper Case

Hi Mark,
This document ( GDSC - Postcode ) gives a pretty good illustration of how postcodes should look. I've used it as a guide for constructing several MP applications that require a full set of UK postcodes, and have the ability to check that a postcode that the user types is properly formatted.
