Update maps in MapPoint 2004

I have just purchased a copy of MapPoint 2004 (Europe) as we were advised that there were postcode issues with 2006.

However, on loading it, I noticed that a local Bypass was not on the map back then! Obviously this will cause issues with routes etc.

Is there any way of updating just the maps that MapPoint uses, rather than the actual software itself?

Re: Update maps in MapPoint 2004

There is not really any good way to do it.

You could try this technique --
Using Autoroute 2003 Data in MapPoint 2002 - MapPoint Articles - MP2K Magazine

I think the last version of AutoRoute was AutoRoute 2007.

However, if it works at all, I think this would only update the roads probably break other stuff like importing data by postcode.

By the way, have you tried MapPoint 2009? Do you know if it has the same issue?

I don't think there is a MapPoint 2009 EU trial available for download yet ( MapPoint 2009 trial - Google Search ), but I saw it in MSDN for MSDN subscribers.

Re: Update maps in MapPoint 2004

It worked! Or seems to have done, subject to full testing.

I did the same as described in the article but with my Autoroute 2006 instead - the road that wasn't built in the 2004 version is now there.

Many Thanks

Re: Update maps in MapPoint 2004

Before you get too excited, test some stuff like importing data mapping to postcode and shaded maps. In the past people reported that some things were broken. Let us know.

Eric

As you say, I havent tested in great detail yet, although the application is only based on routing and doesnt need any form of importing or areas etc - it is a simple database plug-in to route deliveries etc.

Re: Update maps in MapPoint 2004

The most recent road database you can get is in MapPoint 2009 --

MapPoint 2009 FAQ on Microsoft.com

From the FAQ on Microsoft's site:

"Microsoft MapPoint 2009 North American Maps (NA) includes detailed geographic coverage for the United States, Canada, and Mexico (cities and major highways only). Coverage outside of those regions is limited to political boundaries and populated places. MapPoint 2009 NA uses Navteq data from October, 2007 (2007Q3). MapPoint 2009 European Maps (EU) will be available in January 2009 and will have Navteq data from April 2008 (2008Q1). The Navteq data constitutes the vast majority of the maps. TeleAtlas data is also included for postal codes in MapPoint 2009 NA (vintage April 2007) and MapPoint 2009 EU (April 2008)."
