I've looked all over the MS MapPoint site and I find no reference to being able to update the MP database of roads and zips.

I'm using MP to find driving routes between our branches and customers new homes which are often in neighborhoods that didn't exist until recently.

Is there a way to keep the maps up to date?

No, you have to buy a new version.
Downloadable updates would be huge (and sub-licensing would be expensive), so data updates are only available on CD/DVD as a new version.

MapPoint 2009 is due "real soon now" - officially 1st September, but Eric (who runs this site) might have it for sale before then.

No dice on the updates with MapPoint 2009. There are street in my neighborhood that have been here since 2003 and they didn't even make it into the 2009 version. It is too bad nobody has implemented the ability to just drive down a new street with a gps and then add that data to your map.
