Using Autoroute 2007 to update MapPoint 2006

Hi

am using European version of MapPoint 2006.

I have read elsewhere on the forum that it may be possible to use the data directory from AutoRoute 2007 to update the maps in MapPoint 2006.

Streets 2007 data in MapPoint 2006
and
Using Autoroute 2003 Data in MapPoint 2002 - MapPoint Articles - MP2K Magazine

Has anyone tried this and got it working? At the moment we will have to go to another product if we can't get some updates.

The earlier forum entry suggests that the data is not any newer anyway! Is this really the case?

Also, does anyone know whether there is a European release of MapPoint planned for this year?

It is a considerable source of frustration (for me anyway...) that no map updates are available for the UK (or anywhere for that matter). Solutions such as looking up the map reference in other products e.g Matchcode get round missing postcodes but not changes in road layout, newly built roads, roads becoming one-way etc etc

Thanks

Jonathan

MP 06 was released at the end of August 2006, which was only a couple of months before AR 07 was released (if I recall correctly). They both use "2005 Navteq" map data, and my best guess is that the map data is indeed the same.

Is it unusual that there is no AutoRoute 2008?

Streets & Trips 2008 came out several months ago.

Re: Using Autoroute 2007 to update MapPoint 2006

Thanks for your help guys. If the map data isn't newer no point in trying this. It is a real shame Microsoft can't at least issue a yearly update to mapping data.

Autoroute as I understand it is the European "brand" for Streets and Trips. If Streets and Trips 08 is out now in the US, maybe we can expect a new Autoroute for Europe in a few months, or even, dare I raise my hopes, a new version of MapPoint!

Thanks again

Jonathan

Yeah, there doesn't appear to be any info about the next version of AR and MP .

Re: Using Autoroute 2007 to update MapPoint 2006

We successfully utilised Autoroute 2007 data in Mappoint 2004, but are waiting for the latest version of Autoroute (2008?) to see if mapping has changed. I have been onto our software supplier and they have not yet been given any information from Microsoft about Autoroute 2008, although this is not unusual, web talk seem to be more up to date!

If Autoroute 2008 mapping is more current then we will try and update our copies of Mappoint with it. On the licensing front, if you use mapping from Autoroute in Mappoint you do need a licence for each copy of Autoroute that you use it from. Luckily corporate licensing for Autoroute is fairly cost effective.

Hope that helps, will keep you posted.

Thanks RFC. WE may end up using AR 2008 to update MP 2006 if it contains better data.

Nice way to meet your customers needs Microsoft!

Re: Using Autoroute 2007 to update MapPoint 2006

Have just been updated by our software supplier who has spoken to Microsoft that Autoroute is not on the Microsoft Roadmap (how ironic for a map product!) and that there MAY be an update this year, but they could provide no further information and if at all it would be in Q4! Don't hold your breath!

Not on the road map for this year, or ever?
