Question Using in or Exporting a map to PowerPoint

I am able to copy and paste a map in PowerPoint but when I copy and paste the legend it sometimes loses it's colors. There must be a better way to export a map to PPT. Help?

Re: Using in or Exporting a map to PowerPoint

    Hi,

In MapPoint make sure that absolutely nothing on the map is highlighted. (The best way is to click on a blank part of the map.) Using the Menu toolbar - Edit, Copy
Over to PowerPoint left click on a blank part of the slide.
On the Powerpoint Menu toolbar - click Edit, Paste Special*, then select either Bitmap or Device Independant Bitmap - OK
The Legend will now be attached to the map as you see it in MapPoint.
*(If you cannot see Paste Special click the down arrow at the bottom of the drop down Edit menu.)

    Hope this helps.

Re: Using in or Exporting a map to PowerPoint

Thanks very much for the response. I have been trying this but can seem to find a way to eliminate the small view map in the upper left corner (legend and view). Is there a way to eliminate this small view map from the upper left portion of the view? It adds nothing to my PPT and in fact is a bit distracting.

    Thanks!

Can you just close the small view map before copying?

Well, I would if I knew how. When I close that section it seems to close the legend as well.

    Oh, I see. :-[

SpatialPoint has an export to PowerPoint tool --

"* PowerPoint Add-in for quickly placing maps and legends in PowerPoint"

Read more about it here --

    MapPoint FAQs

You might contact them and see if their PowerPoint add-in does what you want and what they would charge for it..

Re: Using in or Exporting a map to PowerPoint

Thanks for the help! Here's my work-around. I do as you mentioned and click in a blank area and then click edit, copy map. I then paste special bitmap in PPT. I then go back to MapPoint and right click on the legend title and again go to edit, copy. Back to PPT where I paste special bitmap. The issue then is that the legend is in this big white box and if you resize it makes the legend tiny. Next workaround - it's a picture so I click on format and use the picture toolbar and crop the legend box down to just capture the legend wording.

Now I can resize the map and place the legend box wherever on the page. It's a bunch of extra steps but it works.

I also tried printing the map as a PDF and then using Adobe to snapshot the map and paste it in PPT but while this works the map loses some resolution.
