    using MapPoint.Map.PrintOut gives b/w output

    And I need a color file that I can use to generate a .tif from (using MODI).
    I can not figure out where it is losing the color.
    Using MapPoint.Map.SaveAs formatted as geoFormatHtmlMap gives me a nice color .gif, but the size and resolution is wrong. With .PrintOut, i specify geoPrintFullPage and geoPrintQualityPresentation and get an 8.5 x 11 .tif after MODI conversion.
    What I really want is a 300 dpi 8.5 x 11 image in color.

    Any ideas welcomed.
    Thanx,
    G

    Have you checked the results of PrintOut before your conversion to TIF?

    TIF is one of those weird formats with quite a few variations and lots of so-so converters that will work fine with some images but not others. I wouldn't be surprised if your TIFF converter is dropping the colour...

    Oops, I did not quite 'splain that right...
    When I open the .mdi file generated by the .PrintOut command with MODI, it is b/w.

    OK, so i opened MapPoint 2009 and put in two addresses, routed between them, set the printer to MODI, save to file, set the MapQuality to Presentation, on Print - selected current map view & extend view to fit page, clicked OK and named the file scratch.mdi.
    Opened the scratch.mdi file with MODI, and it is in b/w.
    Saved the file from MODI as scratch.tif.
    It is b/w.

    I don't think I've ever .PrintOut, but I am looking at it in the Help File.

    I am not sure -- does this use the default Print Driver?

    I would check to see if your default Printer is set for b/w only.

    Dim MODIActPr as String "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer" (name string as copied from the /settings/printers and faxes/name)
    Mappoint.application.ActivePrinter = MODIActPr

    So yes, It is using the MODI for the print output.

    The whole point of doing this, saving as an .mdi, then reading it in with MODIImageConverter, then saving from the MODIImageConverter as a .tif, is to get that nice color .tif output of the map. Except, it is not color currently

    I'd be happy to use a .gif if i could get MapPoint to save it with the same size/aspect/density that i get with the .tif and the MODIImageConverter.

    Is it possible to upload a .tif and .gif of the output of MapPoint so you can see what is happening?

    Thanx,
    G

    Sure, yes you can, when you do a post, see Manage Attachments towards the bottom.

    Have you checked all the Print and Page Setup settings for "Microsoft Office Document Image Writer"? (Assuming there are any).

    Re: using MapPoint.Map.PrintOut gives b/w output

    Eric & Richard,
    Thanx, yes I have checked the MODI help files and googled and msdn'd and ...
    There are 2 "color" settings in the MODI interface that I can find, but they are concerned with retaining color annotations on a b/w doc when saved.

    I am attaching a zip, it contains a .gif and a .tif. The .tif is correct...except it is b/w. The .gif is color from the activemap.saveas(...html...), gut the size is off, the saveas method does not have a "printarea" feature like the .printout method has.

    Thanx,

    Forgot to include the .mdi file generated from the activemap.printout command using the MODI printer driver. The file is scratch.mdi in this zip.
