Very important request : How to know pushpins into a area ?

Hello,

I post another time this request but it's very important for
me (and for my customer ).

I've got a map, a VB6 application and a database.

I add pushpins on the map (in a city).

I'd like to make an "area selection tool" to know the
pushpins into the area !

1/ Is this possible to know which pushpins are into
the basic selection tool - ie the area traced when you
want to make a zoom ???

2/ If no, is this possible to create a SHAPE by
by clicking on the map, hold the button, move the
mouse and keyup the button at the opposinte corner
of the shape ???

Thank you very much for your help !

Regards,

Vincent BENNER

Yes, I think that´s possible.

After adding a shape to the map you can use Dataset.QueryShape to find all the pushpins of this dataset that are within the shape.

Greetings, Jack.

Yes... but

Hello,

Yes it works but I don't know how to provocate the
"SELECT TOOL SHAPE" event, like if you click on
the Shape button of the toolbar !!!! It's the most
important !

I was thinking this way. You let the user draw a shape using the shape drawing tool, and then after for instance a button click you perform the queryshape. The latest added shape is first (or last) in the order of shapes, so you´ll know which shape to query.

Greetings, Jack.

Re: Very important request : How to know pushpins into a area ?

I have done it that way before...works just great. Good advice. I have also exported the file with all layers to a .MIF file which you can open in MapInfo, and then save the layers as their own tables if needed. MapInfo has a great boundary select tool that lets you define the area yourself by just draggin and clicking a line.
