We require a flat file that contains mileage (route miles) between all US 5 digit zip codes, as well as 3 digit to 5 digit zips.

The problem is that we calculate that it will take us thousands of hours to run the calculations in MapPoint to generate the 5 x 5 table. We started using MapPoint, but I am open to any economical solution.

Ideally, does anyone know where we could purchase such a file that has already been created (for a reasonable amount - we were already sticker shocked by some large vendors).

Second best is a software tool that would allow help us accomplish this quick and easy that either works with OR without MapPoint.

Could you be a little more specific in what you need. I have an Access DB that has the Long & Lat for most all of the known zip codes (42,800 records), and with that I can give you the distance from point a to b. The problem is, I believe that my miles are "as the crow flies", so I'm not sure that this would be what you need.

So that's about 0.9 billion routes!

You're going to need a very fast route finder (significantly faster than anything I've seen) if you're going to calculate all of them.

I suggest you use straight lines (at, say 1000/second, that still comes to 254 hours computation time), or look at your real needs. Eg. you could compute them as needed and cache the results.

Another thought: 0.9 billion routes, excluding indices/etc, that comes to about 7 GB of memory/disk if you use doubles. If you go for '4 byte floats', that is still 3.5GB...

We do sell a mileage chart computation program (MileCharter), but the above statistics are beyond MileCharter and MapPoint - as well as Excel which is the usual form of output.

I'm looking for a tool that has driving distances from a distinct set 10 zip codes to every other zip code in the U.S.

A comprehensive zipcode excel file with milage between every zip code to other zip codes would also work

Does anyone have a chart - can not use a calculator

Lets see. 1 zip code per row, 10 zips as columns. ~ 430k formulas.
