We are designing an application that will probably use MapPoint and I have two questions regarding the product:


1). What type of license should my customer buy if he/she intends to use our application on more than one computer?


2). Is it possible to access the ActiveX Control from an ASP application (assuming you have a local copy of MapPoint on the client machine)?

1) Each machine needs its own copy. Significant volume discounts are available. Check out Microsoft's MapPoint site for more information.


2) Making the ASP application available on the Internet is not allowed based on the EULA. You can, in my opinion, use ASP on an Intranet if each desktop that has access to it has its own license. You could build a COM object that is referenced by the ASP page, you can have the object create and export a map, name it appropriately and pass the name back to the ASP page to include it on a page. Be sure to destroy all objects promptly to keep the memory footprint as small as possible.


I have built one myself, actually. It is not appropriate for high volume apps because of the memory requirements for MapPoint.


The question you'd need to ask in an environment where you could create an ASP app is why you would create one. A COM add-in or a VB app might provide a more functional environment without the limitations inherent in ASP.
