i ask because i sold an unopened mappoint 2004 and the customer said it would not install so i accepted a return figuring i would return to original place of purchase for a refund. well upon receiving the return i installed it on a test machine that has no online connection and it installed fine with no problems. now is it normal for this software to have no cd key , the installation did not ask for one and what about activation have not been prompted when i ran the software once. i ask because i think the guy is trying to scam me. he got it burned it and returns for refund. now i can't get a refund because the shop i deal with does not take opened software unless defective. well this is not defective and opened so i can not sell it. i still have not refunded the guys money i just got it back today any suggestions??

You are right, there is no activation. Not accepting opened software unless defective is standard practice I think.. but really to be fair to the consumer you should have stated this upfront?

Maybe as you have verified that it is not defective, you can offer to give your customer technical support to install it? There have been some snafus regarding installation that have come up repeatedly in this forum, see if what he is experiencing matches a known problem.

well i did state no returns on opened software ,but he basically swore it was defective. i offered to replace it or tech support installing it, but he said "i needed it right away so i purchased one retail" the fact he emailed me over the weekend i did not get his email till monday so his story was plausible and i accepted the return to keep a customer happy good service and all. what about the product key there was none in the box as with other microsoft products did he remove it??

On the top of the box there should be a sticker with a hologram thing, that's about it... there's no product key or activation key that has to be typed in. It installs without a product key or activation.
