Hello all,

I am trying to buy a MapPoint 2006. I'd like to use it's ActiveX control interface to get driving distances as well as directions between two locations, also retrieve a geo-code for a given address through C#.NET.

I was on Amazon.com to buy a copy, however was overwhelmed by the options and by the lack of product description for a developer.

There are quite a few options:
MapPoint 2006 Standard Edition priced a $279
Microsoft MapPoint 2006 with GPS $299
Microsoft Mappoint 2006 $189
MapPoint 2006 $429
AE MapPoint 2006: currently unavailabe.

Could someone enlighten me? What are the differences? What would suit me best?

On Amazon.com there should just be two versions -- w/ GPS and w/o GPS, that is the top two on your list.

(Disclaimer, on this site you can buy the version w/o GPS for $259).

Since it is Amazon.com we should only be talking about the North American maps, you should note there is a European maps product as well, you can purchase on Amazon Uk and De etc.

The last three lines are confusing..
Microsoft Mappoint 2006 $189 <-- perhaps this is licensed for Academic use only?
MapPoint 2006 $429 <-- no idea why it would be so expensive
AE MapPoint 2006: currently unavailabe. <-- have not heard of AE MapPoint

I was curious so I searched on Amazon, the ones that are over $400 are disturbing to me, they are listed in Home & Garden and Electronics, I don't know who they are trying to fool. ? As a seller myself, I will admit that would be a nice margin

But when I see the list, I think there was a fleet version also of MP2006 or am I wrong ?

There is a Fleet version but it is only available through ISV's (Microsoft partner designation for independent software vendor) and Microsoft volume licensing programs. Not through retail.
