Will MapPoint Allow Me To....

Will MapPoint allow me to import from Excel to existing pushpins?

For instance, if I create my own pushpin, and mark it as Rt 3 Box 276,
and if I have that same address in Excel, and I try to import from Excel to that pushpin I created, will it find it or say that it can't find it, even though I have it on my master map already?

Hi Texoma,

Actually, if you link your data, then changes will be reflected
when you Update Linked Data.

Is there a specific reason/purpose for your acedemic question
that isn't addressed by this answer?

Re: Will MapPoint Allow Me To....

And what is LinkData, and how will it allow me to have addresses on Excel, and then import them to existing data (pushpins)?

Texoma,

Best thing to do is go into MapPoint Help, find the main topic Mapping Data
and then read through the short articles. You'll get to linking very quickly.

Re: Will MapPoint Allow Me To....

I've gone online to the microsoft mappoint help menu, and even called presales and tech support. Both times I got hung up on before even asking a question.

Can someone just provide a simple answer, as to whether or not, by using Mappoint, using linkdata or santa claus, is there a way to route to certain existing pushpins, imported from an excel spreadsheet, without it creating new pushpins?

I just want to be able to import to the mapping program, from a list of addresses on excel, that I have already been to, and still have marked by a pushpin on my map. I'd be glad to send a copy of my Streets and Trips map which can be converted to mappoint, and a copy of an excel spreadsheet, to see if you can find a way to import them to the map, going to existing pushpins, and then allowing me to add them to my route.

I'm willing to pay for the program, and Im willing to pay for the developers time to find a way to do it.

Texoma,

Oh. I've moved the pin before and I know MapPoint will create another
where it thinks it should be.

If you want a canned program that does import and route from Excel,
go to Mapping Tools for Microsoft MapPoint and look at RouteWriter.

If you need something more customized, I do that.

Re: Will MapPoint Allow Me To....

Mike Matty,

Hey, you are giving me hope that what I want can actually be done.
You understand how moving a pushpin will cause the program to create another pushpin where it thinks it will go.

I've looked over your program, and am not sure it will do what I need. I really don't need it to preroute my route, I just need it to recognize my existing pushpins, and then allow me to add all of them to my route. I can use the Optimize feature to do that.

I'd like to send you a copy of my map, and a copy of my excel, to see if you can use what I have, and make it work the way I want. I've been using Streets and Trips, but will spend the extra money if MapPoint is the only program that will allow me import to my already existing pushpins.

I get a list each month, of about 400 addresses to visit. I have about 6,000 existing pushpins, and never know which ones I will be called upon to visit. So a saved route will not do me any good because the stops change all the time.

How can I get you a copy of my stuff so you can show me that it will work? I do have a trial copy of Mappoint if it will not work with Streets and Trips.

Thanks!
