    Win7x64SP1 clobbers MapPoint 2010....

    All--
For a brief time (a matter of days) I was able to run a WPF application I had created that used the MapPoint 2010 *.ocx on my new Win7x64SP1 box (but only if I ran my custom app as Administrator). Now, without warning, my custom app no longer works. Not sure what is getting in the way but since I have heard that Win7SP1 is incompatible with MapPoint *2011*, I am inclined to think that this has something to do with the C++ redistributables that MapPoint 2010 relies on. (Not sure if they are 32-bit or 64-bit or C++ 2005, 2008 or 2010--guessing 32-bit 2005/2008.) Please feel free to comment.

    TIA,

By examining the contents of MapPoint\MSMap\Redist\MSVCRT\MSVCRT.msi, it appears that MapPoint 2010 installs various 32-bit C++ 2008 (V. 9.0) redistributables.

    Hi,
I dont know if this helps, but I got a similiar problem and this solved it:

Press "windows button" -> type: msconfig -> Enter -> Services -> unable Web Deployment Agent Services -> save & restart !

hope it helps, if not worth a try

OK, what I did was to create a VMWare virtual machine with 64-bit Win7 Pro SP1 as the 'guest' operating system. I installed MapPoint 2010 (North America) in there (as Adminstrator). Also installed VS.NET 2010 (without VS.NET 2010 SP1). I was able to create a simple Windows Forms app in VB 2010 that uses the MapPoint ActiveX control to display a simple map of the US. I think I have demonstrated that Win7 SP1 does *not* actually break MapPoint 2010. Something else does, but I have not yet determined what it is. My suspicion is that it might be Office 2010 Plus. To be continued....

You said the custom app no longer works. Can you start MapPoint normally from the Start menu? If it's hanging at the splash screen, then maybe this is the issue & hotfix solution --
Microsoft KB Article 2643882 Streets & Trips stops responding at the startup screen in Windows 7 or hangs at splash screen

Note that even if you are able to start it normally from the Start menu, the hotfix might still be the solution, as the issue was something obscure about having nested window objects more than 30 levels deep or something technical like that, and the fact that you have the MapPoint control inside your custom app might add another level or two. Hope that makes sense.

    hope this helps,
    Eric

Yes, I was too, but at some point around the end of last year I lost the ability to do this on my Win7SP1x64 box. That was why I resorted to creating a virtual Win7SP1x64 box using VMWare in which I can do the same thing as cataritas.
