Hi,

The databases used by mappoint are not documented. So difficult to change. But you can eventually check if autoroute is more up to date. If so you can check this thread: new streets? on how to update data from autoroute into mappoint.

Switzerland Postal Codes

I think there is an AutoRoute 2007 ? I don't know if it will help with zip codes... AutoRoute does not have the demographics and shaded maps or territories that MapPoint does.

I think your best bet would be to come up with a translation table of new zip codes to what is in MapPoint. For instance if a postal code 5678 has been split into two new postal codes 5679 and 5680 then you would have a table like this to pre-process your data before trying to match it with MapPoint.

new -> what's in MapPoint
5679 -> 5678
5680 -> 5678

Might take a lot of work , but it's probably the only think you can do..

Eric

If the system changed, maybe there is a correspondence list somewhere? e.g. from the Swiss postal service?

There is no file in MapPoint to change, I just meant you could pre-process your data in say in Excel or Access before trying to match it up with MapPoint.

Re: Wrong ZIP Codes on Map point 2006 Pleaaaase HELP !!!

I didn’t know there had been wholesale changes in the Swiss postcode system. Last time I did any work on Switzerland there were around 3,200 4-digit postcodes (as opposed to 9,000). GfK is the firm that keeps tabs of all the changes in european postcodes and has all the geocoding to hand – but obviously you have to pay for their stuff.

Re: Wrong ZIP Codes on Map point 2006 Pleaaaase HELP !!!

Hi Jawad.

This probably isn’t helpful but I checked out the list of 4-digit postcodes in MP2006 and there are 3,464 of which the highest value is 9658. I was wondering if there might have been a mix-up over the actual number of postcodes and the highest value. I checked through the GfK website stuff and they seem to be still quoting around 3,200 postcodes and saying the number has been reduced over recent years based on combining areas. Pls let me know the outcome of all this.

I also came across this product that may be of interest to you (although I’ve never used this source myself so can’t be certain of the quality). It contains lat-longs and is reasonably priced.
