| Zip code-list in excel and pins in MapPoint/msn maps Perhaps you can answer my question: Is it possible to view pins at the location of every zip code, which are listed in an excel-sheet? The excel-sheet contains the following zip codes, for example: User zip code Mr Smith 20024 Mrs Meyer 20024 Mr Archer 10003 etc. And for every user should appear a pin on a map (MapPoint oder msn maps) after an import of this list. Or does anybody know another possibilty to realize such a project? Kind regards, Michael Holthausen |

Hi, Yes a zip code is inough to put a pushpin. I think you are referring to the standalone mappoint application (not programatically) right ? I cannot tell you how to import I'm pretty sure it is possible.

Hi! Thanks for your answer. Yes, my question refers to MapPoint 2006. We're searching an application to show a pin for all our customers in a map. For every customer should appear a pin in this map, so we can see the accumulation of customers e.g. in one city. The data of our customers are stored in a MySQL-Database. So an export of zip codes into an excel-sheet shouldn't be the problem. |

If you use Import Data Wizard then all the records can be displayed as pushpins. However for your application the problem is that all the customers with the same zip will be plotted on top of one another. So you may have 50 customers in 20024 but looking at the map there will be just one pushpin visible. If you click on the pushpin then there will be a list of the 50 customers so this map is perfectly OK for analysis (eg. how many customers in Hamburg) just not much help visually. What I did was to produce a second map based on having obtained the subtotals in Excel by Zip and then plotting the map with symbols that showed the number of customers eg. circles where the area of the circle is proportional to the number of customers. If you’d like to see an example then send me a private message with your e-mail and I’ll send one through. Hope this helps David |
