This is a discussion on Zip Codes and the MapPoint Web Service within the Bing Maps and MapPoint Web Service forums, part of the Map Forums category; I'm getting a lot of flak from my testers about zip codes, and I just want to make sure that ...

| Zip Codes and the MapPoint Web Service They want some way of displaying zip code boundaries to the user. I tell them that with the web service, this just is not available. It's not a MapStyle that I can allow them to choose. There are work-arounds, like allowing them to place labeled points on the map. They really want the boundaries to display, however. I mean, if I had a database of each zip code boundary's coordinates, sure, I could draw them on top of the MapPoint rendered image, using .NET's GDI+ (I already do this for other things), but this would be alarmingly slow and cludgy, I would think. I'm not missing something else, am I? There's no way to show zip code boundaries, right? Thanks. |

Why would you use map point ? The accuracy of Geocoding and coverage is appauling for post and zip codes, I found I had much more customisation using ViaMichelin (ASP, API, web service) . Must admit Map point is better than google |

This is irrelevant to the above comment. Besides, ViaMichelin has limited geographic coverage - it is limited to some European countries. Unlike Bing Maps, and even MapPoint Web Service. Richard

Funny you say that, Just checked their site and ViaMichelin cover 238 countries with 34 to street level including coverage for UK, US etc. That is hardly limited, where do you get your info from cos it seems like to make it up ? Bing maps have to use Decarta for the directions in Europe as bing ones are not good (why else would they use a 3rd party ) ? Anyone reading this may see my point though Map point users who like FREE stuff may be offended, it is true. you get what you pay for. |
